The Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies (HAIC) is continuing its quarterly survey of insurance companies to register the number of home insurance policies purchased, to aid in monitoring the trend and to understand the impact of actions meant to cover the protection gap through private home insurance.
This HAIC survey includes policies which were active on 30 June 2025 and collected data on 1,281,374 policies (a 2% increase from the number of policies held by the same insurance undertakings on 31 March 2025). As a result, the rate of insurance coverage over the total number of policies in Greece comes to 19.4% (with 24 insurance undertakings representing 97.8% of property insurance turnover taking part).
The survey indicated that the number of insured homes with structural coverage came to 1,108,542 (up 3.5% from the survey of 31 March 2025). This means that the rate of coverage in Greece as a percentage of policies with structural coverage comes to 16.8%. Insured homes with mortgages made up 57.7% of the total.
It is noteworthy that homes insured against weather phenomena and earthquakes (which are eligible for a discount on ENFIA property tax) are up 7.8% from the 31 March 2025 survey. As a result, their participation in the total number of polices with structural coverage increased to 67.7% from 65.0% on 31 March 2025.
It would seem, therefore, that property policies are being enriched with all the covers against catastrophic events the law provides for.
